109 Asian African Country Flags Proudly Wave
over Bandung's Merdeka Building
Flags from 109 participating countries in the
60th
Commemoration of the historic Asian African Conference of 1954 were
raised at the Merdeka Building, venue of the Asian African Conference
Museum in Bandung,
West Java. The
flags were hoisted by Bandung's boys and girls scouts on Wednesday, 15th April 2015 symbolizing the city’s readiness to
host this historical commemoration.
“The raising of the 109 flags is our initiative
to show that Bandung is truly ready to host the grand 60th commemoration of the Asian African Conference”
stated Head of the Asian African Museum, Thomas A. Siregar as quoted from
tempo.co. He further added that every year
during the commemoration of this formidable historic Conference, flags of
delegations who attended the Asian- African Conference were hoisted over
the Merdeka Building, highlighting the city.
The flag raising ceremony took place at 07:00
West Indonesia Time involving 250 scouts who were carefully chosen through a
strict selection process.
The flag raising ceremony also attracted the
public’s enthusiasm who crowded around to follow the ceremony. Many also took
the opportunity to take “selfies” with the special ambience of the Asian African
Conference commemoration as bacground, in particular along the rows of flag
poles.
My opinion : Hopefully with the conference
Asian-Africa can impact both on the relations of the countries participating in
it.
