Director of Communication and Campaigns of WWF
Indonesia, Nyoman Iswarayoga in Jakarta, on Tuesday, 31st March 2015 expressed his appreciation for the
all-out participation of the general public, business communities, and regional
government authorities who took part in Earth Hour 2015.
The voluntarily turning off of all lights and
electric devices for one full hour in Earth Hour is a symbol of commitment
towards applying a more environmentally friendly way of life. This year, the
global movement was participated by 172 countries.
Nyoman Iswarayoga explained that the
decrease of electricity usage during Earth Hour is a main indicator of public
participation in the movement. On a global scale, the success of the Earth Hour
movement can be measured from the level of participation in the number of
countries, cities, and business communities that took part in turning off of
all electricity.
This year, cities in Indonesia who
joinedt the global movement included: Banda Aceh, Padang,
Medan,
Palembang,
Pekanbaru,
Lampung,
Jakarta,
Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, Bekasi, Bandung,
Cimahi, Solo,
Yogyakarta,
Surabaya,
Malang,
Sidoarjo, Kediri, Denpasar,
Mataram,
Pontianak,
Palangkaraya,

and more.
Initiated in Sydney, Australia, the global
movement of Earth Hour is currently in its 7th year. The movement has expanded from one city to over 7000 cities, and from
one country into 162 countries worldwide. Earth Hour is hence, regarded as
the biggest global environmental campaign to date.
My opinion : It's very important energy savings
which are now a source of electrical power is getting low. With diakannya this
event is certainly very positive impact because we can save our electric energy
even though it was only done one hour.
